The Sound of Music

As Leslie stated in a earlier post, music can play in important part in any workout - whether it is on an elliptical or treadmill or out in the open air on a running trail. If you have a good mix of uptempo songs to listen to, you can defintitely push those little twangs of pain you might experience out of your head.

Above I have listed six songs that I have on almost every running playlist that I have. Sure there are others songs, but these six tends to make their way into it for various reasons. Some for pacing (Run Runaway, I Want You), some for inspiration (Alive), others for determination (In The End), one for fun (It Takes Two) and finally one for the kick at the end (She Bop).

For me, it isn't so much the lyrical content in most cases - but the tempo and the beat. If you can find a good song with an upbeat tempo that you can run with, then by all means use it. It will help.

Workout
Today, I hopped on the elliptical at 8:30 in the morning. Did you hear me? 8 freaking 30 in the morning!!! I'm telling you, I don't even come close to being coherant until at least 11am - so you can imagine how surprised Leslie was when she awoke to a sweatsoaked man sitting in her dining room looking like some caveman rather than her normal vision of me playing poker online.

45 minutes on the Hill Climb, Level 4 for a distance of 4.24 miles burning 898 calories. Although both are training highs, I was pushing for 4.25 miles and 900 calories - so you can imagine I am a tad dissappointed.
